Political Showdown: APC Dismisses Fubara’s Lawsuit As ‘Empty And Spurious

Speaking on Tuesday, the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, said there was no threat to the convention scheduled for Saturday in Abuja. He stressed that the exercise would be conducted in full compliance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the party’s internal guidelines.

Basiru described a lawsuit filed by South-South vice chairmanship aspirant, Fubara Dagogo, as baseless and without merit. He also noted that he had not been officially served with any court documents related to the case.

According to him, the position being contested is not part of the national convention but a zonal office, which will be decided at the regional level. He added that the party had only learned about the complaint through media reports and insisted that nothing would derail the convention.

The APC expects over 7,200 delegates to attend the convention at Eagle Square, Abuja. In preparation, the party is holding zonal congresses across the country’s six geopolitical zones to elect regional leaders, including vice chairmen.

The South-South zonal congress, where Dagogo is seeking a position, is scheduled to take place in Asaba, Delta State.

Basiru urged party members to familiarize themselves with the APC constitution, noting that legal action cannot halt a process that does not directly concern the plaintiff.

Dagogo had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking it to stop the convention, claiming he was denied nomination forms despite paying ₦5.1 million. He is seeking an injunction to prevent the South-South congress from holding.

His lawyer, Chief OAU Onyema, said the case aims to uphold internal democracy within the party.

Meanwhile, the party’s screening committee, led by Biodun Oyebanji, has cleared several aspirants for the National Working Committee elections after reviewing their credentials in Abuja.
