Political Storm In Kuje As Chairman Allegedly Warns Residents To Back APC or Leave

Kuje Area Council Chairman, Samuel Shekwolo, has sparked controversy following comments in which he appeared to tell residents who do not support the All Progressives Congress (APC) to leave the council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Shekwolo made the remarks in a video circulating on social media while addressing supporters and constituents. He reportedly linked his position to developmental projects being carried out in the area under the administration of President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the council chairman argued that residents benefiting from government projects should not subsequently vote against the APC at the polls.

Shekwolo said he was not hiding his position, declaring that residents were either expected to support the APC or leave the area council.

He reportedly said, “I have said in my area council, it’s either you are doing APC or leave the area council; I’m not hiding that. With confidence, I’m saying it.”

Explaining his stance, he added that he could not support residents benefiting from the work of the President and FCT Minister only for them to vote against the party during an election.

“It’s either you are with us, or you are out,” he stated.

The comments have generated attention as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with concerns being raised over political tolerance and the freedom of residents to support parties of their choice.

Shekwolo’s remarks also come amid heightened scrutiny of inflammatory political statements across the country. The development follows controversy surrounding Senator Francis Fadahunsi over comments he allegedly made while addressing APC supporters in Ilesa ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.

Fadahunsi was accused of threatening members of the Accord Party, prompting condemnation from political stakeholders and civil society groups. Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke also called for his arrest and investigation.

The senator later denied threatening anyone with physical violence, explaining that his remarks were intended to refer to defeating the opposition party through votes.

He was subsequently invited and questioned by the Osun State Police Command over the controversial comments.

Shekwolo, who emerged as chairman of Kuje Area Council on the APC platform during the February 2026 FCT Area Council election, reportedly secured 17,269 votes to win the chairmanship.

His latest comments are expected to fuel further debate over political rhetoric and the conduct of politicians as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
