The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has sharply criticized the chairman of the factional chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state over allegations that Governor Monday Okpebholo sent thugs and armed men to attack the headquarters of three Local Government Areas (LGA) in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

On Monday, suspected thugs barricaded the Etsako West Local Government Secretariat in Auchi, Edo State, preventing the council chairman, Marvellous Zibiri, and workers from accessing their offices. This incident came after the Edo State House of Assembly suspended all 18 council chairmen and their deputies on December 17, 2024.

In a statement released on Saturday, APC Chairman Jarret Tenebe condemned the PDP’s accusations against Governor Okpebholo, labeling them reckless, irresponsible, and politically motivated. He asserted that eyewitnesses and stakeholders confirmed that the violence and destruction at the LGA headquarters were caused by rival factions within the councils and the factional PDP, who were trying to assert control.

Tenebe urged the public to be wary of such misleading accusations. The statement continued, “As a responsible party, we feel obligated to clarify the situation and provide a more accurate account of the events. After conducting a thorough investigation and collecting evidence from various sources, we can definitively state that the allegations against Governor Okpebholo are groundless, misleading, and politically driven.”

He added, “The Governor has always prioritized upholding the rule of law and supporting democratic principles. His administration is known for promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability, earning him the respect and admiration of the people of Edo State.”

Contrary to the report’s claims, the APC’s investigation found that the incidents at the LGA headquarters were not the result of actions ordered by the Governor or his agents. Instead, they were a consequence of internal conflicts and power struggles within the local government councils, which have been escalating for several months.
