During a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Okafor argued that the court’s directive for an “inclusive” national convention was not followed, which led to Julius Abure’s appointment as national chairman under a “faulty structure.”
Okafor, who previously served on the national working committee (NWC) with late LP chair Abdulkadir Salam, asserted that he and his group are the rightful beneficiaries of the court judgment. He stated, “The owner of the house has taken the house,” clarifying that his leadership is based on adhering to the correct process rather than contesting with the NLC.
He emphasized that the 2014 convention is crucial for the party’s restructuring. According to Okafor, the 2014 NWC members, as beneficiaries of the judgment, will oversee an inclusive convention and work towards reconciling all factions within the party over the next six months. His intervention, he said, is a critical step in resolving the long-standing legal dispute over LP’s leadership.
