Power Gathering: Saraki, Mimiko, Osoba Lead Former Governors’ Historic First Meeting

This was revealed in a statement on Tuesday by the forum’s National Coordinator, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, who previously served as Director-General of the Nigerian Governors Forum.

According to Onaiwu, the meeting will bring together former governors from across the country to share their expertise and contribute to governance, policy formulation, and national stability. He described the event as a landmark gathering of leaders who have played key roles in shaping Nigeria’s democratic journey.

He explained that the forum is designed as a non-partisan platform that will tap into the wealth of experience and institutional knowledge of former governors.

“This meeting is not just ceremonial—it marks the start of a coordinated national effort,” he said, noting that Nigeria’s current governance and development challenges require insights from seasoned leadership.

Several prominent former governors are expected to attend, including Victor Attah and Olusegun Osoba.

Others listed are Olusegun Mimiko, Bukola Saraki, Ibrahim Shema, and Ikedi Ohakim.

Onaiwu stressed that the forum is not intended to function as a political alliance but rather as a platform for meaningful dialogue on national issues. Its goal, he said, is to connect past leadership experience with present governance needs.

He added that the initiative seeks to convert experience into tangible impact by promoting continuity in leadership thinking, strengthening institutions, and ensuring that lessons from past governance are applied to current and future challenges.

The inaugural meeting is expected to outline the forum’s structure, strategic direction, and the role former governors can play in shaping national discourse and policy.
