He made the announcement in a post on his Truth Social platform, explaining that the agreement followed discussions with Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Trump stated that the ceasefire is conditional on Iran agreeing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global route for oil transportation.
According to him, the pause in military action is intended to allow both sides to continue negotiations toward a lasting agreement. He also claimed that the United States has already achieved its military objectives and is moving closer to a broader peace deal in the Middle East.
Trump further revealed that the U.S. had received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he described as a workable basis for reaching a long-term settlement, noting that many contentious issues have already been addressed.
Reports also suggest that Israel has agreed to the temporary ceasefire and suspended its military operations.
The announcement came just hours before an earlier deadline set by Trump, during which he warned of severe consequences if Iran failed to make concessions.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities described the development as a diplomatic breakthrough, claiming it reflects a significant shift in negotiations. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the ceasefire followed what it called a major setback for the United States.
The council also indicated that the proposed agreement includes regulated navigation through the Strait of Hormuz under Iranian oversight, and suggested that the United States may consider easing sanctions as part of the evolving deal.
