Tunji stated that the federal government is actively addressing the issue by working to settle outstanding payments owed to power generation companies. The decrease in gas supply to these companies has resulted in a lower energy output, impacting electricity distribution to various load centers and subsequently affecting distribution companies’ ability to supply electricity to consumers.
The statement emphasized the government’s recognition of the unsustainable situation and expressed expectations for an immediate turnaround in the electricity supply.
Additionally, during a recent inspection tour of electricity installations and facilities in Ibadan, Oyo State, Minister Adelabu addressed concerns related to community expenses on transformers, electricity poles, power cables, and related infrastructure. He clarified that these expenses fall under the responsibility of power distribution companies (DISCOs) and not individual consumers. Adelabu pledged to take action to relieve consumers of these financial responsibilities and affirmed his commitment to ending the practice.
Moreover, the Minister acknowledged widespread dissatisfaction with the metering system in the power sector, particularly with the estimated billing system. He assured consumers that efforts would be made to resolve this issue and improve the overall efficiency of the power distribution system.
