Power Restored: TCN Achieves National Grid Recovery After Outage....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

TCN has declared the restoration of the national electricity grid after a fire incident at the Afam power generating station caused a significant collapse early Monday. This incident marked the sixth grid failure in 2024. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, stated that the grid, operating at 2,583.77MW at 2 am, drastically dropped to 64.7MW by 3 am due to the fire. Mbah explained that the fire at the Afam V 330kV bus bar coupler led to the tripping of units at Afam III and Afam VI, resulting in a sudden loss of 25MW and 305MW respectively, destabilizing the grid.

TCN’s swift actions helped minimize the broader impact of the failure. Despite the incident, Ibom Power plant supplied parts of the Port Harcourt Region, lessening the disturbance. The restoration efforts proved successful, with the affected sections of the grid now stabilized and fully operational. Mbah assured the public of TCN’s dedication to improving grid reliability and ongoing efforts to prevent future collapses. TCN reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the resilience and reliability of the national grid through continued investment in infrastructure strengthening measures.
