Power Struggle Erupts As Maduro’s Son Demands Protests Over Father’s Capture

In an audio message that circulated widely online and was later confirmed by aides, the 35-year-old lawmaker vowed that loyalists of the former president would not back down.

“You will find us in the streets, standing with the people, raising the banner of dignity. They want us to appear weak, but we will not show weakness,” Maduro Guerra said.

One of six individuals — including his father and stepmother, Cilia Flores — facing US narcoterrorism charges, Maduro Guerra made the appeal amid escalating tension in Caracas.

The speed and precision of the US operation, which reportedly seized the former president from a secured location in the capital, has sparked speculation of betrayal from within Maduro’s inner circle.

“History will reveal who the traitors were. In time, everything will be exposed,” Maduro Guerra remarked, echoing growing public suspicion of an insider’s role in the operation.

Maduro Guerra is the only biological child of the former leader, who also adopted three children with Flores.

Despite the political turmoil, he expressed confidence that chavismo — the revolutionary ideology of the late Hugo Chávez — would survive.

On Sunday, pockets of supporters gathered in Caracas, waving Venezuelan flags and displaying posters of the ousted president. The demonstrations were largely peaceful, though emotions ran high.

Following a pre-dawn raid, Maduro, 63, and Flores, 69, were flown to New York, where they are being held pending legal proceedings. Maduro is scheduled to appear before a federal judge on Monday to be formally arraigned.

In the interim, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has been sworn in as Venezuela’s acting president.
