Presidency Sparks Controversy With AI-Generated Photo Of ‘Tinubu–Kagame Paris Meeting’
A new wave of controversy has trailed images circulating online that claim to show President Bola Tinubu in a meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Paris, after analysts pointed out that the pictures were likely created using artificial intelligence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The images, which went viral on social media on Sunday, carried a clear watermark from Grok, an AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, raising doubts about the authenticity of the visuals and the reported encounter.
The alleged meeting was initially announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who shared details of it on Facebook.
Onanuga said the two leaders held a private lunch in Paris, during which they discussed global developments, Africa’s role in a rapidly changing world, and their shared aspirations for the continent’s progress.
President Tinubu also posted about the meeting on (formerly Twitter), writing, “This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H.E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape,” alongside the disputed image.
The photo was later reposted by the President’s Special Assistant on New Media, Dada Olusegun.
However, neither Onanuga nor other officials from the Presidency have clarified why an AI-generated image was used, intensifying public speculation over whether the meeting took place as described or was presented symbolically.
Grok, the AI tool linked to the watermark, is designed for real-time search and image generation and forms part of Elon Musk’s broader artificial intelligence initiative under xAI.
