Igweh elucidated that the arrests were made on March 11 following a report by Rosemary’s husband, Chiedozie Ubah, to the Gwagwa Police Division. Chiedozie had reported that his pregnant wife had left home for a scan but did not return.
Subsequently, Chiedozie received a call from his wife’s phone number informing him of her alleged kidnapping and demanding a ransom of N2 million for her release.
“In compliance with the kidnapper’s instructions, he transferred the sum of two million naira into his wife’s account. He later brought his wife to the police station after her purported release,” Igweh stated.
Upon interrogation, Rosemary admitted to colluding with a man named Walter Ezeala, a resident of the same street in Saburi, to extort money from her husband.
“Walter was apprehended, and he confessed to receiving eight hundred thousand naira (N800,000), while the woman took one million two hundred thousand naira (N1,200,000) from the scam,” Igweh revealed.
A total of seven hundred and ninety-three thousand five hundred naira (N793,500) in cash, two FCMB ATM cards, and two android phones were recovered from the suspects. They are set to be charged to court soon.
