Chief Timipre Sylva, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, has issued a strong warning to Governor Douye Diri, urging him to prepare for an imminent departure from the Creek Haven Government House. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Julius Bokoru, the former Petroleum Minister criticized Diri’s lack of accomplishments during his four-year tenure and emphasized that the governor had nothing substantial to campaign on. Sylva asserted that the people of Bayelsa were ready to oust Diri in the upcoming elections on November 11.
Sylva highlighted his own experience, competence, and commitment to the state, contrasting it with Diri’s perceived incompetence and ineffective governance.
He also pointed out that the Nembe Bridge, which Diri appeared to take credit for, was mostly completed during Sylva’s tenure.
The statement further criticized Diri’s campaign strategy, which appeared to rely on issuing vague statements rather than showcasing tangible achievements.
Sylva also accused Diri of attempting to win support by bribing individuals claiming to be APC members and seeking endorsements from religious and political leaders.
Sylva noted that Diri’s dwindling popularity was evident in his performance in the 2019 elections when he secured only 54% of the votes in his local government area, Kolokuma-Opokuma.
This result, according to Sylva, highlighted the people’s dissatisfaction with Diri’s leadership, despite his previous positions in government.
