In a rebuttal, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, denounced these reports as fake news and criticized the persistence of misinformation in society. He specifically criticized a news outlet for not retracting or correcting its inaccurate coverage regarding Tinubu’s status as ECOWAS chairman.

“The spread of fake news remains rampant. Despite its falsehood, @nigeriantribune has failed to retract or revise their reporting. This is deeply concerning!” remarked the presidential aide.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu was re-elected as ECOWAS chairman during the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday. Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, secured a renewed mandate to uphold continuity in addressing regional priorities such as security, reconciliation, and development.

Previously elected in Guinea-Bissau on July 9, 2023, Tinubu’s re-election underscores the regional leaders’ commitment to sustaining progress under his leadership.

Special Adviser to the President, Ajuri Ngelale, affirmed on Sunday that Tinubu’s extension signifies a collective decision by ECOWAS leaders to maintain stability and effectiveness in achieving their objectives.
