Earlier in the week, the organisation claimed that terrorist elements were regrouping to carry out mass killings in Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Benue states on December 25.
Responding to the alert, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, raised concerns about the intent behind the report, cautioning that such claims could incite fear and worsen public anxiety over security.
Speaking to Saturday Punch, Ajayi said Nigerians must exercise caution in accepting reports from external groups that could fuel internal tension.
“We should be careful about how we process and amplify questionable reports from foreign organisations that may be laying the groundwork for crisis within our country. We should not give oxygen to narratives that heighten insecurity,” he said.
Ajayi also questioned the timing and focus of the alert, particularly its reference to Christmas Day, urging Nigerians to critically examine the agenda of the organisation behind it.
“What exactly is the motive of raising this alarm, especially one targeting a major Christian celebration in specific states?” he asked.
While disputing the claims, the Presidency reassured citizens that security agencies are fully alert and prepared to prevent any threat.
“Regardless of the motive, our security forces are capable of neutralising any planned attack and ensuring public safety,” Ajayi stated.
He called on Nigerians to remain calm and celebrate the festive season without fear, stressing that law enforcement agencies are on high alert.
“Nigerians should go about their Christmas and Yuletide celebrations peacefully. The police and the military are fully engaged to guarantee safety across the country,” he added.
