President Tinubu Appoints Justice Kekere-Ekun As Acting CJN (Photos)

President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The swearing-in ceremony took place at 11:38 a.m., with Justice Kekere-Ekun assuming her position in the Council Chambers at 11:45 a.m., seated to the President’s left.

Justice Kekere-Ekun steps into the role following the retirement of her predecessor, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and her nomination by the National Judicial Council (NJC) on August 15. She becomes the second female Chief Justice of Nigeria, succeeding Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, who served from July 2012 to November 2014. Justice Kekere-Ekun will serve in an acting capacity until Senate confirmation.

The ceremony was attended by Supreme Court Justices, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives leadership represented by Prof. Julius Ihonbvere, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the outgoing CJN, Justice Ariwoola, among others.
