President Tinubu Faces Demands To Appoint A Fresh Humanitarian Minister....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has urgently appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint a new Minister for the Humanitarian Ministry. The council contends that the recent stampede during subsidized rice distribution in Lagos on Feb. 23 could have been prevented with a minister overseeing the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

In a communique issued after an emergency meeting to discuss national issues, the NCSCN attributed the unfortunate incident to the inactivity of the ministry following the dismissal of Beta Edu by President Tinubu. The absence of a substantive minister reportedly led to the Nigeria Customs Service taking on the burden of distributing intervention items, resulting in complications.

The council emphasized the critical role of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, stating that the current challenges in the country, such as food insecurity, job losses, and low productivity, can be traced back to issues like the closure of industries, high exchange rates, and security concerns affecting farmers.

The communique also acknowledged the commendable efforts of the Nigeria Customs Service under the leadership of Mr. Bashir Adeniyi in combating smuggling. However, it stressed the need for a strengthened and rejuvenated Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, calling for the appointment of a young and capable minister with a track record of performance, similar to Dr. Beta Edu.

In conclusion, the NCSCN expressed optimism that a swift resolution and the appointment of a competent minister would lead to a revitalized ministry fulfilling its statutory mandate, contributing to the nation’s economic recovery.
