President Tinubu Makes Another Bold Move – Insider Details Emerge On New Acting Chief Of Army StaffPresident Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Oluyede as the Acting Chief of Army Staff, according to a statement released on Wednesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga. The statement read, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS). Oluyede will serve in this capacity until the return of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.”
Before this appointment, Oluyede was the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, based in Jaji, Kaduna. At 56, Oluyede shares a long professional history with Lagbaja, as both were commissioned from the 39th Regular Course in 1987, and Oluyede was promoted to Major General in September 2020.
Throughout his career, Oluyede has held numerous leadership positions, from Platoon Commander and Adjutant at the 65 Battalion to Company Commander at the 177 Guards Battalion, later advancing to roles such as Staff Officer at the Guards Brigade and Commandant of the Amphibious Training School. His experience includes commanding roles in high-stakes missions, including the ECOMOG Mission in Liberia, Operation HARMONY IV in Bakassi, and Operation HADIN KAI in the Northeast, where he led the 27 Task Force Brigade.
Oluyede’s service has earned him various honors, including the Corps Medal of Honour, Grand Service Star, and recognition as a Member of the National Institute, underscoring his dedication and significant contributions to national security.
