In addition to seeking approval for the bill, Tinubu proposed reducing the interval for periodic review of the national minimum wage from five years to three years. The bill aims to formalize the recently agreed ₦70,000 minimum wage between Organised Labour, the Organised Private Sector, and the federal government.

In his correspondence to the lawmakers, President Tinubu urged for prompt legislative action to facilitate immediate implementation, emphasizing the benefit it would bring to Nigerian workers.

Furthermore, the President submitted a separate request to amend the Nigeria Police Act, aligning it with Section 58 of the 1999 Constitution as amended. This amendment specifically focuses on the appointment and tenure of the Inspector General of Police.

These legislative initiatives are encapsulated in the Police Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which proposes changes to the Police Act 2020 concerning the appointment and tenure of the Inspector General of Police.
