Protesters In Port Harcourt Demand Food From Police Officers

During the protest, participants confronted police officers stationed to maintain order, chanting “hungry dey, hungry dey, hungry dey” as they approached the officers.

This comes on the heels of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s unsuccessful attempt to placate the protesters the previous day. On Thursday, the Governor faced backlash from the demonstrators outside the Port Harcourt Government House after offering them money for pure water. The gesture only heightened their frustration.

Addressing the crowd, Fubara expressed his sympathy, stating, “I thank you for being peaceful and for coming out. I feel your pain and will convey your message to the President. We will work to improve conditions in Rivers State, but we need your support for the Federal Government. I understand there is hunger, but please be patient.”

The protesters rejected his offer, responding with shouts of, “No, no! Keep your money. We want good governance in Nigeria. Tinubu must go.”

Despite the Governor’s efforts to calm the situation and clarify his intentions, the protesters’ anger persisted. Fubara eventually waved to the crowd and left the scene.
