During the ceremony, Mrs. Mary Ubani from PUNCH Nigeria Limited’s Digital Advert Unit received the award from popular actress and lawyer, Winihin Jemide, amid applause and commendations.
Omagbemi Ogbe, managing partner of GLG Communications, highlighted The PUNCH’s ethical journalism, investigative prowess, and its comprehensive coverage of national and international news as reasons for the award. She praised the newspaper for its fearless approach in holding those in power accountable and shedding light on public interest issues.
Arise News TV and Nairametrics were also honored in the categories of television and digital media respectively at the awards ceremony. Arise News TV was lauded for its in-depth political, business, and current affairs coverage, while Nairametrics was recognized for its thorough reporting on economic, financial, and business news.
In discussions with Sunday PUNCH at the event, Ogbe emphasized the role of PR professionals in contributing to Nigeria’s economy by addressing unemployment and promoting the country’s positive image. She urged the federal government to acknowledge and invest in the PR industry, noting its significant impact on national development.
