Ramsey Nouah Reveals Shocking Truth About His AMVCA Journey

Published

Veteran Nollywood actor Ramsey Nouah has revealed that he has never won an Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA), despite being nominated for Best Actor in 2016.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Nouah made the revelation while speaking on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, where he reflected on his experience at the prestigious awards.

The actor was nominated for the Best Actor category in 2016 following his performance in the acclaimed movie 76. He competed alongside veteran actors including Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, and the late Olu Jacobs.

Nouah recalled that he ultimately lost the award to another nominee, explaining that the voting system at the time was largely driven by viewers rather than the combination of public votes and jury decisions used in the current format.

The actor suggested that the voting structure made social media popularity a significant factor in determining the winner, giving an advantage to nominees with stronger online followings.

“I never won an AMVCA. I was nominated for Best Actor in 76 and I lost,” Nouah said.

He explained that the awards were predominantly based on viewers’ votes at the time, unlike the current system, which he said provides a balance between viewers’ votes and the decisions of a professional jury.

Nouah noted that he, RMD and Olu Jacobs were among the nominees in the category, but the eventual winner had a stronger social media presence and was able to secure more votes.

The actor’s revelation has sparked renewed interest in his long career and achievements in Nollywood, particularly given his status as one of the industry’s most respected and recognisable figures.
