Reconciliation At Risk: Baruwa Admonishes Lalong Over NURTW Turmoil
Baruwa alleged that Governor Lalong is showing favoritism toward the Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede-led faction of the Union. This claim was made through a statement issued by the Union’s General Secretary, Comrade Anthony Asogwa Chukwudi, in Abuja…CONTINUE READING

Baruwa asserted that the Minister had a covert meeting with the Agbede faction of the Union on October 18, 2023, during which he purportedly advised them to organize a fresh National Quadrennial Delegates Conference.
Baruwa contended that such counsel runs afoul of the Union’s constitution, specifically Article 8 Section 2 (1). Chukwudi emphasized that “our constitution, approved by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, stipulates that the quadrennial delegates conference of the union shall be held in August of every four years.”
Furthermore, the Union’s President disclosed that an unnamed source who attended the meeting revealed that the Minister urged the Agbede group to proceed with the new conference, emphasizing that they should not let the Union disintegrate due to one person.
Baruwa expressed disappointment over such a statement coming from a government official who is expected to be an impartial mediator. He lamented that this only exacerbates the Union’s issues.
He also expressed surprise that the Agbede-led group continues to operate from the National Secretariat of the Union, despite Minister Lalong’s directive on October 9, 2023, to suspend the operations of both factions.
In conclusion, Baruwa called upon Minister Lalong to reconsider his actions and avoid further undermining the reconciliation process within the Union.
