Rejection Sh*cker: Ebonyi Gov’t Reacts After Businessman Snubs Appointment
The Ebonyi State Government has responded to businessman Emmanuel Eze’s rejection of his appointment to the state’s Economic Advisory Committee.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Governor Francis Nwifuru had named Eze, CEO of Immaculate Group of Companies and former House of Representatives candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, as a member of the committee. His appointment was formally conveyed on August 29, 2025, through a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Grace Umezuruike.
However, Eze turned down the offer, arguing that the committee was being inaugurated too late in the administration. According to him, economic teams are most effective when formed early in government, adding that he would rather continue supporting the state’s development through his private role.
Reacting, the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Leo Oketa, dismissed the timing argument, stressing that economic reforms are long-term projects not bound by political timelines. He explained that Governor Nwifuru constituted the committee after stabilizing key areas of governance, making it a strategic move for sustainable development.
Oketa further emphasized that the committee’s credibility remained intact, despite Eze’s decision.
“No one is indispensable,” he said. “The Governor has assembled a credible, competent, and diverse team of professionals with proven national and international track records. The refusal of one individual does not diminish the relevance or strength of the team, nor does it imply superiority over those who have accepted the call to serve.”
