Relief For Corps Members As FG Confirms Plan To Pay Backlogged NYSC Allowance

The government had announced the increment from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 in September 2024, but the full implementation faced delays despite repeated assurances and public outcry.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, reassured that both serving corps members and those who were part of the scheme when the increment was announced would receive their backdated payments.

However, while confirming the government’s commitment, Olawande did not provide a specific timeline for when the backlog would be cleared.

“You saw the new DG confirming that corps members will get it. When asked if those exiting the scheme would also receive it, he assured that their details were on record.

“The backlog will be addressed, and we will ensure it is paid. It may not happen immediately, but it will definitely be done,” Olawande stated.
