In a deeply emotional moment during a plenary session, Hon. Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson for the House of Representatives, shed tears as he passionately discussed the escalating insecurity in Ekiti State. The tragic event occurred on Monday, Jan. 30, when two Ekiti monarchs, David Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, and Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Omojola-Ekiti, were attacked and fatally shot while returning from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti.

During the motion, Rotimi tearfully expressed his concern over the surge in criminal activities in Ekiti North 1, leading to the loss of lives and properties. He shared poignant descriptions of the slain traditional rulers, emphasizing Onimojo’s intellectual prowess and Ogunsakin’s dedication to peace and community development.

Rotimi highlighted the unique security challenges faced by his constituency, attributing them to the region’s forested landscapes and challenging topography. He underscored the additional vulnerability created by the deplorable condition of Ekiti federal roads, labeling them as some of the most dilapidated in the entire country.

The legislator emphasized that the tragic killing of the monarchs was not an isolated incident, citing recent occurrences such as the murder of a commercial driver between Ayedun and Ayebode communities by armed bandits. He further revealed a distressing incident involving the abduction of a school bus loaded with students in Emure Ekiti, with their whereabouts still unknown.

Following the adoption of Rotimi’s motion, the House urged Chief of Army Staff Taoreed Lagbaja to deploy the military to the outpost along the Oke-Ako area. This decision aims to enhance security and prevent the recurrence of such devastating attacks.
