Resign Now! Labour Party Faction Gives Peter Obi 48-Hour Ultimatum Over ADC Deal
The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has given Peter Obi, its 2023 presidential candidate, a 48-hour ultimatum to resign from the party following his involvement in a new opposition coalition formed ahead of the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Obi was one of the prominent political figures who met on Wednesday to endorse the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the umbrella party for the coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
However, in a statement released Thursday in Abuja, Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Abure-led faction, declared that Obi’s actions conflict with the party’s stance, noting that the faction has publicly dissociated itself from the alliance, which it described as a gathering of “power mongers” and “frustrated politicians.”
“The Labour Party has made it clear that we are not part of this coalition. Any member involved is expected to formally resign from the party within 48 hours,” the statement read.
“Desperate Politicians Can’t Deliver a New Nigeria” — Ifoh
Ifoh criticized the coalition, saying it could never produce the “New Nigeria” being promised, given the questionable track records of its members.
“We’re aware of secret meetings between Peter Obi and some party members, trying to convince them to join him in this new arrangement,” he alleged.
“Many have rejected his overtures and are staying back.”
According to Ifoh, the coalition includes individuals who contributed to Nigeria’s past governance failures, using the new platform as a launchpad to return to power.
“Nearly 70% of Nigerians are youths tired of recycled leadership. What they want is not represented in this so-called coalition,” he stated.
“No More Divided Loyalties in Labour Party”
Ifoh emphasized that dual political affiliations will no longer be tolerated within the Labour Party.
“You can’t claim to be with Labour by day and coalition by night,” he warned.
“Labour Party is not a safe house for those with hidden agendas and shifting loyalties.”
He urged party loyalists to remain committed to the party’s structure and prepare for future elections under the LP banner.
Meanwhile, Peter Obi has doubled down on his support for the coalition, calling it a crucial platform for rescuing Nigeria in 2027.
Posting on his official handle, Obi said:
“No single group can transform Nigeria alone. We must build bridges—however uneasy—to dismantle the structures of poverty and insecurity.”
He confirmed that the coalition has adopted the ADC as its official platform for the 2027 elections, with Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as Secretary.
“Our goal is to provide a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that puts the welfare of Nigerians above all else,” Obi added.
