The party has been plagued by crises, notably impacting its performance in the 2023 general election and prompting defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Efforts to restore peace within the party, including the appointment of a caretaker committee by the National Working Committee (NWC), further exacerbated tensions as prominent members protested the decision and threatened defection.

In his resignation letter, Usulor cited the factionalization of the party as a key reason for his departure. He had previously issued an ultimatum to the national leadership to address the crisis in the state chapter, which he claims was disregarded. Usulor criticized the appointment of members from other political parties to the state caretaker committee, a move that intensified discord among stakeholders.

After consulting with his supporters and associates, Usulor concluded that remaining in a divided and declining party served no political interest. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities and support received from PDP over the years, including his tenure as a three-term representative at the State Assembly. However, he emphasized the need to explore other political avenues that align with his aspirations and those of his supporters.

Regarding his future plans, Usulor intends to consult with his family and political allies before making further decisions.
