Retaliatory Response: Okai Denies Banditry Allegations, Blasts Governor Ododo....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Austin Okai, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections, has urged Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State to refrain from politicizing security issues. Criticizing Ododo’s handling of recent security challenges, Okai labeled the governor as inexperienced for his failure to visit the Omala community following a deadly bandit attack that claimed the lives of at least 25 individuals last month.

The attack, which occurred in Agojeju Odo, Omala local government area, left devastation in its wake, with numerous casualties and homes set ablaze by suspected bandits. Despite mounting criticism, Governor Ododo, speaking after observing Eid-el-fitri prayers in Okene, dismissed detractors, stating that he wouldn’t dignify them with a response.

In response, Okai accused Ododo of politicizing the security situation and raised concerns about the lack of transparency regarding the arrest of a suspect linked to the killings. He questioned why the governor chose to announce the arrest in Okene rather than in Omala, where the incident occurred.

Okai further lambasted Ododo for what he perceived as a delayed and inadequate response to the tragedy, highlighting the governor’s failure to promptly visit Omala or provide adequate support to the affected community. He criticized Ododo’s claim of receiving a mandate from the President, emphasizing that governance responsibilities are bestowed by the people, not the presidency.

Asserting that Ododo’s administration has fallen short of expectations, Okai called on the governor to fulfill his duties and address the pressing needs of Kogi State residents, particularly those affected by insecurity. He criticized the governor’s purported lack of empathy and failure to take decisive action in the aftermath of the attack.

As tensions rise over security concerns in Kogi State, Okai’s criticisms underscore growing discontent with the state government’s response to the ongoing challenges. The call for accountability and effective governance resonates with many, highlighting the urgent need for proactive measures to address insecurity and protect communities across the state.
