The controversy surrounding the sudden removal of former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, continues to deepen as new revelations shed light on the power struggle that led to his ouster.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obasa’s impeachment, widely linked to his rumored gubernatorial ambitions, was reportedly the result of a well-orchestrated plot by an influential political group known as “the cabal.”

This faction, which had fallen out with Obasa, allegedly collaborated with key political figures who viewed him as too powerful and unrestrained, even under President Bola Tinubu’s political dominance.

According to Vanguard, several prominent figures were involved in the plot, including:

  • A former senator, former ambassador, and former minister from Lagos Central.
  • A two-term ex-senator from Lagos East and West.
  • A past governorship aspirant, a former Lagos commissioner, and a former Deputy Speaker (now a serving senator).
  • Three top officials in the Lagos State Government.

The cabal reportedly operated in multiple factions, enlisting:

  • Current and former lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
  • House of Representatives members led by a four-term ranking member involved in the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council.
  • State party executives, local government chairmen, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

Two major opposition movements, ‘Resist GAC’ and ‘Obasa Must Go’, gained traction, with backing from some influential traditional rulers.

One of the monarchs reportedly declared:
“Lagos for Lagos has begun, and we are set to reclaim Lagos from outsiders (‘a to hun in wa’).”

Additionally, sources allege that a former commissioner, now a serving lawmaker, offered cash incentives to Assembly members before Obasa’s removal, with more funds reserved for post-impeachment payouts.

“The money is still in the custody of a respected monarch from a wealthy kingdom in Lagos Central,” a source disclosed.

Further reports suggest that funding for this operation was sourced from a powerful political figure recently appointed by President Tinubu. These funds were allegedly used not only for Obasa’s removal but also for media campaigns and propaganda targeting the President, First Lady, and Obasa himself.
