According to Obi, the former Nigerian leader urged him to always prioritize the welfare of the poor.

Speaking during the third-day Islamic funeral prayer in Katsina State held in Buhari’s honour, Obi recounted:

“I had the privilege of meeting him while I was on the campaign trail. I still remember his words clearly: ‘Please care for the poor Nigerians.’”

He noted that the advice made a deep impression on him and reflected Buhari’s genuine concern for the less privileged.

“That moment stuck with me. I truly believe he did his best within the limits of his ability,” Obi said.

Reflecting on Buhari’s legacy, Obi commended the late leader’s humility and consistent advocacy for the downtrodden.

“I wasn’t close to him, but from our brief meeting, I saw sincerity. His call to support the poor was heartfelt,” he added.

The federal government’s delegation to the prayer was led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who conveyed President Tinubu’s message describing Buhari’s death as a “great national loss.” Other high-profile figures, including senior government officials, Islamic scholars, and military leaders, were in attendance.
