Revelation Sparks Heat As Abati Counters Atiku Over 30-Year Presidential Ambition
Veteran journalist and former presidential media aide, Reuben Abati, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent remarks about ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Abati, speaking on Friday during an Arise News programme, said it was disrespectful and unfair for Atiku to describe Jonathan as inexperienced.
Atiku, in a televised interview on Wednesday, had described Jonathan as a “decent but inexperienced” leader, adding that his lack of experience contributed to policy failures and his defeat in the 2015 presidential election.
He stated that Jonathan’s shortcomings in office reinforced the need for experienced leadership in Nigeria, while also defending his own suitability for the presidency.
Reacting, Abati dismissed the comment as condescending, insisting that Jonathan had already served as President of Nigeria—an office Atiku has pursued for decades without success.
He added that it was inappropriate for Atiku to question Jonathan’s experience, noting that the former president had already achieved what Atiku continues to aspire to.
Abati further argued that Atiku’s long-standing presidential ambition, spanning about 30 years, makes his remarks about Jonathan unfair and overly dismissive.
He concluded that regardless of the outcome of the 2027 elections, Jonathan remains a former president, while Atiku is still pursuing the position he once held.
