Speaking through former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, at the 102nd meeting of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja on Monday, the former Senate President warned that rhetoric alone would not secure victory in 2027.
Wabara called for reconciliation within the party, suggesting that certain rules may need to be relaxed in order to welcome back genuine members. He described this approach as an act of political maturity and wisdom, stressing that forgiveness and inclusiveness would strengthen the PDP.
He urged party leaders to lead by example, demonstrating sacrifice and selflessness. According to him, unity is indispensable for the PDP’s survival.
“Unity is the glue that binds us, the fuel that drives our progress, and the assurance of victory in 2027. As elders, it is our responsibility to create room for reconciliation. Where necessary, we must adjust some party rules to accommodate genuine returnees,” he said.
Wabara further noted that the forthcoming PDP National Convention should be seen as a defining moment for repositioning the party.
“This convention is more than just an administrative procedure; it is an opportunity to reaffirm our values, strengthen our structures, and present the PDP as the credible alternative to rescue Nigeria in 2027. The elections will not be won by rhetoric alone but by unity, sacrifice, and inclusiveness. Let us focus not on what divides us but on what unites us,” he cautioned.
