Rhodes-Vivour Reacts To Police Closure Of ADC Event: “Lagos Belongs To All Of Us

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former Labour Party candidate for Lagos State governor, has strongly criticized the closure of the venue where the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was set to hold a meeting on Saturday.

In a statement posted on his account on Friday, Rhodes-Vivour accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the closure, alleging that the ruling party is misusing state resources to suppress opposition voices in Lagos.

He noted that the ADC had secured all necessary approvals for the venue, but claimed the APC, concerned about the growing influence of the Obidient movement and the opposition party, deployed security forces to shut down the meeting.

Despite the setback, Rhodes-Vivour vowed that they would not be intimidated, emphasizing that Lagos “belongs to all of us.”

“It is deeply disappointing that the Lagos APC is abusing state institutions by sealing the venue for a lawfully approved ADC meeting. This act is not only an abuse of power but a blatant attempt to silence opposition voices.

“We understand that the APC is nervous about the momentum that ADC and Obidients are building across the state, but using state security to disrupt legitimate political activity is unacceptable and undemocratic.

“Lagos belongs to everyone, not just a select few. Lawful assembly is our constitutional right, and no amount of intimidation can deter us from engaging with the people. Our movement is driven by the citizens, and no barricade or show of force will weaken their determination for a better Lagos,” he stated.
