Rivers Assembly Under Oko-Jumbo Confirms Fubara’s Nominees

The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, has screened and confirmed Lawrence Oko-Jaja, SAN, as the Chairman of the Board of the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement (RSBoPP). In addition to Oko-Jaja, the Assembly also screened and confirmed seven other nominees for the board. The confirmed members include Dr. Ernest Ibekwe Ekwe, Dr. Mina Ogbanga, Iseleye Amachree, Adokiye Oyagiri, Gift Alex-Hart, Mrs. Grace Osaronu, and Selinah Amoniea. The screening followed a letter from Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which was read by Speaker Oko-Jumbo during the plenary.

In the letter, the governor stated, “Request for screening and confirmation of the members of the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement; pursuant to the provisions of Section 1, Sub-Section 4 of the Rivers State Public Procurement Law No. 4 of 2008. It is my pleasure to forward the under-listed nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as members of the Board of Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement.”

During the screening process, the nominees pledged to utilize their extensive experience to advance the state, particularly in implementing government policies. Lawrence Oko-Jaja assured the Assembly that, if confirmed, the board under his leadership would prioritize value for money in all state government contracts and services.

Speaker Oko-Jumbo advised the nominees to remain committed to their duties and maintain loyalty to the state government. He emphasized the importance of integrating best practices with high-quality performance while ensuring transparency and accountability in all procurements managed by the Bureau.

The lawmakers confirmed the nominees through voice votes, expressing confidence in their suitability for the roles. The House then adjourned its session until September 4, 2024.
