Rivers Sole Administrator Ibas Holds Crucial Talks with Traditional Rulers At Government House

During a meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Ibas, a retired vice admiral and former Chief of Naval Staff, expressed his strong commitment to the Niger Delta’s progress and lamented the state’s ongoing instability.

“As a former naval chief, my duty was to protect lives, and I remain dedicated to restoring peace in Rivers State,” he stated. He assured the traditional rulers that his administration would work tirelessly to rebuild stability and pride in the state.

Ibas emphasized that his mandate is to restore order and ensure Rivers State moves forward, stressing the need to curb the influence of individuals prioritizing personal interests over the state’s well-being. “A society without order is a society without progress,” he remarked.

He called on traditional rulers to serve as a link between the government and the people, helping to ease tensions in their communities. He warned against political partisanship in speech, actions, or body language, urging them to also steer clear of cultism and vandalism.

“Security is everyone’s responsibility, not just the government’s,” Ibas reminded them, adding that his administration would not tolerate disorder or instability.

In response, HRM Chike Worlu-Wodo, Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, pledged their full support. He praised Ibas’ appointment, describing it as a positive step for the state, and reaffirmed the commitment of traditional rulers to maintaining peace in their domains.

“As traditional rulers, our primary duty is to uphold peace in our kingdoms, clans, and communities,” Worlu-Wodo said, likening Ibas’ role to that of a mediator fostering unity and conflict resolution.

He wished Ibas success in his mission, emphasizing that Rivers State urgently needs peace to progress. “We have confidence in your ability, which is why you were appointed,” he concluded.
