Rivers State Shake-Up: Judiciary Thwarts Assembly’s Attempt To Oust Governor And Deputy

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, has rejected a request from the State House of Assembly to form a seven-member panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.

Justice Amadi explained that his decision was guided by existing court orders that prohibit him from establishing such a panel.

While acknowledging the Assembly’s petition, he noted that his office is currently subject to two separate interim injunctions preventing him from taking any action on the matter.

He stressed that constitutionalism and the rule of law are fundamental to democracy and affirmed that he is legally bound to adhere to the interim orders until they are lifted or the case is conclusively resolved.
