Rivers Tension Rises! Wike Touches Down In Port Harcourt After Supreme Court’s Ruling

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, arrived in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday night, just hours after the Supreme Court ruled against his successor, Governor Sim Fubara.

The apex court directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt the release of funds to the Rivers State government until a properly constituted House of Assembly is in place. Additionally, it ordered Martin Amaewhule to immediately resume sitting with all elected members.

The ruling also barred the Accountant General of the Federation and other government agencies from disbursing funds to the state until previous court directives are met. In a judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye, the five-member panel unanimously dismissed a cross-appeal by Governor Fubara, which challenged the legitimacy of the Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

Following the verdict, Wike’s aide, Lere Olayinka, shared a video on , showing Wike’s arrival in Port Harcourt, where he was warmly received by a crowd of supporters at the airport.
