Rivers Turmoil Deepens: Lloyd Exposes Fubara Over Multiple Wounded

Chidi Lloyd, former Chairman of Emuoha Local Government Area in Rivers State and a staunch ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has cast doubt on Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s commitment to achieving lasting peace amid the state’s ongoing political crisis.

Lloyd argued that Fubara has yet to fulfill key prerequisites set by Wike, which are essential for any genuine reconciliation to occur.

While addressing the media in Port Harcourt, Lloyd stressed that peace efforts without justice are futile, insisting that the governor must meet certain conditions to demonstrate sincerity.

Among these conditions, Lloyd said, is a formal apology from Fubara to respected elder statesman and former Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Sergeant Awuse, as well as to members of the State House of Assembly, former local government chairmen, and others affected.

“Many think only the Minister (Wike) was hurt in this political upheaval, but several others—including former council chairmen and campaign coordinators who worked for Fubara—are also nursing grievances. I am aggrieved too,” Lloyd declared. “We must not settle for a peace of the graveyard; we need authentic reconciliation.”

He also criticized Fubara for allegedly violating the eight-point peace accord brokered by President Bola Tinubu at the peak of the crisis, noting that the governor has failed to honor the terms agreed upon.

“None of Fubara’s allies have shown remorse or issued any apology. If the governor can disregard an agreement made in the presence of the President, how can anyone trust his intentions? What about the lawmakers whose salaries were withheld for two years? Peace isn’t about appeasing the Minister alone—it must be pursued in full,” Lloyd asserted.
