Royal Revelation: Prince Owoyomi Chosen As Obajio Of Ife In Grand Ceremony

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has officially approved the appointment of Prince Olagoke Owoyomi as the new Obajio of Ife.

This announcement was made in a statement released on Wednesday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, on behalf of the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.

According to the statement, Prince Owoyomi, a respected farmer and entrepreneur from the Alayo ruling house in Moore, Ile-Ife, was selected through a transparent process involving three eligible contenders from both the Alayo and Bamidein ruling houses.

The monarch explained that a five-member committee, established by the Ooni-in-Council, was tasked with screening the candidates—Prince Olagoke Owoyomi, Prince Olagbenga Owoyomi, and Prince Kola Ogunrinola—before the final decision was reached.

Oba Ogunwusi noted that Prince Owoyomi’s appointment was based on his proven integrity, dedication to cultural values, and track record of service to the community.

“As the Ejio of Ife, you are charged with upholding the dignity of the office, leading with wisdom and humility, and contributing to the peace, unity, and progress of Ile-Ife and its people,” the Ooni stated in the official letter of appointment.

The palace added that the details regarding the formal installation and presentation of Prince Owoyomi will be announced in due time, in accordance with established traditional procedures.

This development reflects the Ooni’s continued commitment to reinforcing traditional institutions and entrusting leadership to credible and qualified individuals within the revered Yoruba kingdom.
