Reflecting on their Oval Office discussion, Zelenskyy acknowledged the tense atmosphere, describing the meeting as “not good for both sides.” Despite this, he remained hopeful that his relationship with Trump could still be repaired.

Reports indicate that the high-profile meeting quickly turned confrontational, with Trump and Vice President JD Vance accusing Zelenskyy of “gambling with World War Three.”

In a post-meeting interview with Fox News, Zelenskyy reaffirmed the strained nature of the discussion, stating that the outcome was disappointing for both parties. However, when pressed on whether he owed Trump an apology, he sidestepped the question, emphasizing the need for honesty and asserting, “I’m not sure that we did something bad.”

Zelenskyy had traveled to Washington seeking a minerals deal that could pave the way for security guarantees from the U.S. as part of a potential ceasefire agreement with Russia. However, following the heated exchange at the White House, he departed earlier than planned, and a scheduled press conference to announce the deal was abruptly canceled.
