Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged role of the State Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, in securing bail for a suspected drug trafficker, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This directive comes amid growing public outrage following revelations that the Commissioner’s name appeared in official court documents facilitating the suspect’s release.

According to Daily Nigerian, Namadi was reportedly instrumental in meeting the bail conditions set by Justice M.S. Shu’aibu on July 16. The judge had granted bail to the accused on the condition that a sitting commissioner and member of the Kano State Executive Council serve as surety, in addition to a ₦5 million deposit.

In response, Namadi submitted an affidavit of means and officially requested to act as surety for Dan Wawu through a letter dated July 18, 2025, addressed to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Kano.

Reacting to the controversy, Governor Yusuf on Saturday announced the formation of a special investigative panel via a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

The committee is chaired by Barrister Aminu Hussain, Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters, and is tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the bail process and recommending immediate actions.

Members of the committee include:

  2. Barr. Hamza Haladu – Member

  3. Barr. Hamza Nuhu Dantani – Member

  4. Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar – Member

  5. Maj. Gen. Sani Muhammad (Rtd.) – Member

  6. Comrade Kabiru Said Dakata – Member

  7. Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota – Secretary

Governor Yusuf expressed deep concern over the alleged misconduct and reiterated his administration’s commitment to combating drug abuse and curbing all forms of social vices in Kano State.
