Security Alert: Police React As Hoodlum Assaults German National In FCT

A German national was attacked by a hoodlum while jogging on Saturday morning in the Maitama area of Abuja.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. along IBB Way, near Maitama Primary School, where the assailant dispossessed the victim of his phone and other valuables.

According to Daily Trust, a resident, Mathew Jamea, who works in the neighborhood, said the victim was confronted by two men on a motorcycle. However, another eyewitness maintained that the attacker acted alone.

Police Confirm Attack

The spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, clarifying that it was carried out by a lone hoodlum.

“The hoodlum, who was alone, snatched the victim’s phone. The matter was reported to the police and investigation is ongoing to track the phone,” Adeh said.

The attack has heightened concerns among Abuja residents over what they describe as worsening insecurity in the capital city.

A civil servant, Hannah Isayah, highlighted the growing threats of “one chance” robbery, phone and motorcycle snatching, child abductions in satellite towns, and armed robbery as urgent issues demanding government intervention.

In response, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) announced the creation of a special task force to combat insecurity. It has also begun clearing shanties suspected to be hideouts for hoodlums across the city.

The development comes weeks after the United States Embassy warned its citizens to steer clear of military and government facilities in Abuja due to potential security threats.
