A former Department of State Security staff member and National Security and Intelligence Expert, Seyi Adetayo, has expressed his dismay over the escape of Binance Executive Nadeem Anjarwalla from custody in Nigeria, branding it as a disgrace to the nation.

Adetayo made these remarks during an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, highlighting the concerning nature of Anjarwalla’s escape after the office of the National Security Adviser confirmed the incident.

The Nigerian government has initiated a manhunt for Anjarwalla following his escape, but Adetayo suggested that the operation may have been facilitated by a contract organization or foreign government intelligence.

He further speculated that the security agents present during the escape might have been swayed by monetary incentives or other influences.

Describing the escape as a meticulously planned operation, Adetayo emphasized the potential involvement of significant resources, hinting at Binance’s potential sponsorship. He stressed that such incidents reflect poorly on the country.

Anjarwalla fled custody while under a 14-day remand order by a court on charges of tax evasion and other offenses, with his next court appearance scheduled for April 4, 2024.

The incident adds to the ongoing tensions between the Nigerian government and Binance over allegations of illicit financial activities in the country.
