Senate In Turmoil: Olajengbesi Says Natasha’s Suspension Raises Serious Questions About Accountability!

In a statement issued on Friday, March 7, 2025, in Abuja, Olajengbesi questioned the decision to punish the accuser instead of addressing the allegations against Akpabio. He expressed concern that this action raised serious doubts about the values and priorities of the country’s institutions. He further criticized the Senate for the way they handled the suspension, describing it as incongruous with the rule of law.

Olajengbesi emphasized that the Senate’s credibility is now under threat, urging Akpabio to step aside to allow for an independent and transparent investigation.

The statement read, “Recently, the National Assembly has been engulfed in a major scandal involving the Senate President, who has been accused of sexual harassment by Senator Natasha. This is not just a personal issue—it is a national disgrace and a shame for us all.

“The Senate President allegedly made a nightclub reference while addressing Senator Natasha, a comment she found insulting, leading her to expose her experience in the Senate chambers. Rather than addressing this grave accusation, the Senate retaliated by suspending Senator Natasha for six months, an action witnessed by a global audience.

“I watched this unfold on television, and it revealed a deeper issue within our society. The decision to punish the accuser instead of confronting the allegations against the Senate President raises critical questions about the integrity and priorities of our institutions.

“While the Senate President is presumed innocent until proven guilty, the handling of this matter has been neither dignified nor just. It is an affront to justice and the Senate itself for the Senate President to oversee the suspension of Senator Natasha.

“In such a situation, he should have stepped aside to allow the Deputy Senate President to handle the process, ensuring impartiality and transparency,” Olajengbesi concluded.
