Senate Unveils Proposal For A New Minimum Wage

Plang expressed the Senate’s dedication to improving the living conditions of workers in the country and addressing the prevailing high levels of poverty.
He stated, “The commendable efforts of the federal government and organized labor in initiating the necessary steps to review the current minimum wage in Nigeria, as outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed by the negotiating parties, are highly appreciated.
The Senate Committee on Employment, Labour, and Productivity, under my leadership, is prepared to promptly address the passage of a new Act once negotiations are concluded and such a bill is submitted to the National Assembly for approval.”
He further added, “Nigerians, especially members of this committee, are pleased that the potential industrial unrest was averted through the memorandum of understanding reached by the federal government, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). However, it is crucial for all parties involved to adhere to the agreements they have made.”
