In a statement, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said Usman and her allies also blocked staff from accessing the Secretariat.

Ifoh alleged that the intruders removed the party’s billboards, replacing them with those of Senator Nenadi, and were reportedly supported by eight truckloads of police personnel.

He added that the Abure faction deliberately avoided confronting Usman and her supporters to prevent clashes.

The statement read in part:

“The Abure-led leadership is shocked by the invasion of its Secretariat by the Nenadi camp, aided by police, in the early hours of Tuesday. Accompanied by Abia State Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, Senator Nenadi allegedly directed hoodlums to break into offices and remove files and other materials.

When some of our senior officials arrived in the morning, they were blocked by police. We chose not to confront them to avoid violent confrontations, preferring a peaceful approach.

It is on record that a Federal High Court in the FCT had recognized Senator Usman as Interim Chairman of the Labour Party. The party leadership has since obtained a Stay of Execution and filed an appeal. It is therefore improper and unnecessary for any group to resort to self-help by forcibly entering the National Secretariat.

We call on the Police, Department of State Security, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and other relevant agencies to take notice of this unlawful invasion. Failure to act would signal a threat to our democracy and its institutions.

We also urge party members to remain vigilant as the leadership continues to pursue justice through lawful channels.”
