Senator Ubah Promises Full Operation Of Port Harcourt, Warri Refineries By 2024 Amid Fuel Scarcity Concerns

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, has declared that the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries are slated for full operation by the conclusion of 2024. He disclosed that concrete plans have been put in motion to achieve this goal, with the Kaduna Refinery also expected to be operational by the end of the following year.

Senator Ubah underscored that the successful completion of these refinery projects, in conjunction with the forthcoming supply from the Dangote Refinery, boasting a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), will not only meet the nation’s domestic fuel requirements but also contribute significantly to bolstering the Nigerian economy.

He urged the federal government and other relevant stakeholders to consider establishing modular refineries as a means to expand the country’s crude oil refining capacity.

In his words, Sen Ubah stated, “My mandate is to ensure the functionality of Nigeria’s refineries. Through my active involvement, we anticipate that two refineries will be operational before the year’s end. Furthermore, we expect the Kaduna refinery to commence operations before the conclusion of the subsequent year. Additionally, the production of jet oil and lubricants is slated for mid-next year.”

“I can assure Nigerians that I am committed to tirelessly pursuing and ensuring the full operation of these refineries before the year runs out. We have established a technical team tasked with visiting the refineries biweekly to ensure that we meet our set objectives.
