Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has lamented that the wage increase demands from organized labor are unrealistic.
Akume made these remarks in Abuja on Thursday, June 6, during a meeting with the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
He appealed to the Christian community for support as the tripartite committee on minimum wage continues its negotiations.
Akume stated that paying a minimum wage of N100,000 to his drivers would be a challenging responsibility.
“I can’t afford to pay my driver one hundred thousand because they are four,” Akume lamented. “And these other people, dependents.”
He also questioned the feasibility of meeting the demands from organized labor, asking, “Where do we get that money from?”
