Accompanying him on this visit were the council’s Vice Chairman, Hon. Benjamin Ojato, the parish priest of St. Philip-Neri Catholic Church, the rector of St.
Philip Nursery/Primary and Secondary School in Jattu, Rev. Fr. Jude Amune, Rev. Fr. David John Oshioke, and the Councillor representing Ward 11 in Etsako West, Hon. Okwilegue Omoruaye Valentine.
During this visit, the Deputy Governor made an appeal to the federal government, urging them to provide assistance to the affected communities to prevent further damage to the residents’ livelihoods. He also called upon the local populace to refrain from activities that might exacerbate the already dire situation.
Comrade Philip Shaibu conveyed his deep sympathy on behalf of the Edo State Government to the affected people. He pledged to compile a comprehensive report based on the assessment and present it to Governor Godwin Obaseki, his principal and elder brother, in order to facilitate immediate relief efforts to alleviate the impact of the disaster.
The Deputy Governor also inspected additional erosion sites in the area, beginning from Saint Philip Cemetery to the area where approximately 100 houses were swept away by the destructive erosion that has plagued the community.
