Shake-Up In Abuja! Tinubu Disbands Federal Properties Alienation Committee

President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, with effect from November 5, 2025.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that all outstanding matters previously handled by the committee will now be coordinated by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

The committee was established in 2000 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to oversee the sale, lease and privatisation of Federal Government landed assets under the monetisation policy.

Its membership comprised representatives from several ministries and agencies, including Housing, Justice, Transportation, Health, Agriculture and the Nigeria Police Force, alongside public and private sector stakeholders.

According to the Presidency, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) also constituted a panel of inquiry in March 2001 to review issues relating to the committee’s activities and produce a White Paper to guide government action.

However, the Presidency said the committee had gradually exceeded the scope of its original mandate, resulting in multiple legal disputes across the country.

Following a review of its operations, the Federal Government concluded that the committee’s continued existence was no longer necessary.

As part of the directive, President Tinubu ordered that all unresolved matters relating to the committee be transferred to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation for coordination and appropriate action.

The Presidency also instructed the committee’s former secretary, B.S. Dutsin-Ma, to immediately stop acting or representing the dissolved body in any capacity.

According to the statement, Dutsin-Ma is no longer authorised to act on behalf of either the committee or the Federal Government on matters relating to the dissolved Presidential Implementation Committee.
